The Cure Bio & Tour
The Cure is a British rock band that was formed by Robert Smith in 1978. Since its formation, the lineup has changed several times but Smith remains the only permanent member.
The band was formed at the end of the 1970s, as punk rock made way for post-punk and new wave in Great Britain. They debuted with “Killing an Arab” and Three Imaginary Boys (1979).
In the early 1980s, The Cure recorded music that reflected nihilism, darkness, and tragedy; this greatly contributed to gothic rock’s development. Pornography (1982) caused great doubt about the band’s survival; Smith then decided it needed a new image.
“Let’s Go To Bed” (1982) was the first single of The Cure that would begin to record songs covers with a pop-genre. In late 80s, various successful albums were made which assisted The Cure in gaining more popularity, not just in their home country but also places like America where “Lovesong”, “Just Like Heaven” and “Friday I’m In Love” became popular among Billboard Hot 100 listeners.
Since the early 1990s, The Cure has been one of the most popular bands in alternative rock. They have released 13 studio albums and 39 singles over more than thirty years. On March 29, 2019, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in New York City.
